Liberal Democrat Chris Howes almost pulled off a stunning win in the Chatteris Mills by-election on 4 March. Only 37 votes separated him from the Conservative candidate: Chris got 264 votes compared to the Conservative's 301.
Meanwhile, Liberal Democrat Diane Baldry was one of two candidates returned to Chatteris Town Council, with 324 votes, comfortably ahead of the second Conservative candidate on 255.
Labour trailed in fourth place behind UKIP in the district election, with only 33 votes out of over 650. Local parliamentary spokesman Lorna Spenceley said: "This was a pretty poor showing for a party apparently serious about challenging the Conservatives for the parliamentary seat of North East Cambridgeshire".
