Your reader Alan Lay makes a good point concerning roads and paths. In this Country in general, and in this area in particular, insufficient efforts have been made to keep pace with the trends of modern traffic.
I would like to suggest that Mr Lay and like minded readers make their feelings known on HM Government's 'Your Freedom' website (http://yourfreedom.hmg.gov.uk/)
Locally, I am hopeful that we can soon look forward to seeing our MP and local District and County Councillors to at last starting to concentrate their efforts to addressing the issue of providing us with safe cycle routes. This step alone would probably rid our roads of a very considerable number of vehicles, though significant improvements to public transport hereabouts is also very desirable.
Development of cycleways would bring a whole range of benefits to the local population, not only through the obvious improvements to safety and health, the environment, and being able to enjoy the facilities ourselves, but it would also represent a step toward the development of local tourism.
The development of a Fenland tourist industry would provide a much needed boost to the local economy.
I look forward to seeing the introduction of some comprehensive and 'joined up' thinking.

Chatteris Town Councillor
